Amanda Aiken

Storyboard Artist and Animator

View my CV here.

I am a creative storyboard artist and animator with a love for bringing stories to life. I’m looking to work on projects with humour and heart.

Stories have always been at the centre of everything I’ve done. I’ve written and illustrated stories and books since I was very young – one of my first about a woman who grew too many potatoes. Several sequels, and many other stories, followed.

My sister and I developed a complex illustrated history around our toys, involving space travel, royal succession, and farming. In addition to writing these stories down we put on plays for our long-suffering parents and friends. One of these plays, The Princess and the Cowboy, I developed into a short film for my bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. With the help of several friends stepping in as actors, not one but two films were eventually made.

After turning away from the artistic side of things, I studied Media Production at university. This encompassed everything from animation and scriptwriting to production. Afterwards I decided not to pursue live action filmmaking, but took up my pencil again. I realised that I wanted to draw and tell stories and be a cinematographer and act and direct. This is when I decided to study animation, but more specifically to move towards storyboarding.

Since then I’ve learnt a lot about animation, storytelling, and doing my own taxes. I’ve worked on some wonderful and wonderfully diverse projects while continuing to develop my draftsmanship and personal ideas. I’m looking forward to what’s next!
