Clearing through my files today I found this sketch I did in Vancouver. It was a nice warm day so I went to the beach to doodle and draw. Today Edinburgh is cold and rainy and feels more like February than June, so I coloured my old sketch to remind me of warmer days …
More life drawing! All drawn in pastel.
I’m pleased with many of the sketches I did last night! Regular drawing helps so much, yet it’s so easy to fall out of that all-important habit.
Some sketches from Tuesday. Pencil, pastel and pen.
I’ve been doing some more figure drawing from artists.pixelovely.com and thought these two stood out. I like the way this model uses her hair and the cloth she’s wearing.
I’ve been working on a large freelance project which means I haven’t had much to put on the blog! After missing last week, I managed to make it along to the life drawing class again.
These are a few sketches from the life drawing club I went to yesterday and the fortnight before. It’s nice as they have some excellent models and shorter pose times, as well as a very relaxed atmosphere. The club is called All The Young Nudes. The pencil sketches are from a fortnight ago, and theContinue reading “Life Drawing”
I’d like to get into the habit of drawing daily so I’ve come up with a list of short exercises to do, one each day. Today’s was a landscape study. Mountain landscape 478216 from http://wallpaper-kid.com/mountain-landscape-backgrounds.htm I did a B&W study first to try and understand the tones in the photograph. In my sketch it’s difficultContinue reading “Landscape 01”
I decided I needed a new profile picture and thought I’d draw one! This is referenced from a photograph my sister took.
I did more sketching from artists.pixelovely.com yesterday. I chose to focus on hands and feet this time. There were some very tough poses, but I had a lot of fun doing these. Here is a very small selection: 5 minutes: Sometimes if I’m not pleased with a drawing I’ve done, and I still have time, IContinue reading “More Sketches”
Yesterday I found a link to the site artists.pixelovely.com which has photographs of people, animals, expressions, etc. that can be viewed as “classes”. This morning I tried out a 30-minute figure drawing class, followed by a 30-minute animal class. There are different things to pick from – clothed, nude, horses, birds – but I chose the most general options. TheContinue reading “Animals”
I love this movie. I’ve seen lots of sketches from other people who’ve doodled through films, and I’ve always wondered how they can do that. Well, now I’ve tried it I see the appeal! I loved capturing the lighting in the central drawing, and trying to catch likeness while the shot remained on screen (withContinue reading “Sketches from The Sound of Music”
I visited Bristol Museum today and sketched some of the creatures there. This tiger was shot by George V in 1911, which is some sort of distinction I suppose. It was in an amazing crouched position and at first glance appeared to be ferocious. The longer I looked at it, however, the more it lookedContinue reading “Bristol Museum”
This is one of the first sketches I did for the fire in “Dreid”, my VFS classical animation. (You can find the film in “Shorts”.) I took a picture of the sketch when I had to throw the sketchbook it was in away, and I only found the picture this weekend. This little bird was inContinue reading “Old Drawings”
I used to paint at the table by standing on a chair. If I did that now I’d be in danger of hitting the ceiling.
