I’ve not made it along to life drawing for a few weeks so I thought I’d better get back into practice with some gestures! I drew these from images at Line of Action, using the 30 and 60 second timers.

Some 30-second digital sketches. I decided to practice as I’ve been struggling to draw the hands in my storyboards. These are the ones I liked best!

Hands02

I’ve been unable to go to the life drawing sessions for the last couple of weeks, so I did some drawing from poses online. They’re not ideal (although the model does stay perfectly still) but I do like being able to do the very short poses.

The hands below were done in 30 seconds each; I used to be quicker but I’m out of practice! I still find hands and feet difficult. Here I was really working to break the hand down as simply as I could – I’ve still some way to go.

Hands The pose shown below took longer – 2 minutes.Back

This pose took somewhere around 7 minutes to draw. I’m pleased with it as often my longer poses lose clarity and spontaneity, and I feel this one’s kept that. I would like to do some drawing of dancers in real life.Ballerina

More Sketches

I did more sketching from artists.pixelovely.com yesterday. I chose to focus on hands and feet this time. There were some very tough poses, but I had a lot of fun doing these. Here is a very small selection:

Sometimes if I’m not pleased with a drawing I’ve done, and I still have time, I try it again.clasp copy This was very difficult to draw. I think the front reads quite well, not sure about the back though. And I used a lighter coloured pencil, which doesn’t help at all …

30 seconds:

(part of) 11 minutes:

Hand_02Today I’ve added some hand studies to my Portfolio – Life Drawing page, which you can find here: [EDIT – I’ve since updated my portfolio page, so there is no longer a specific page for Life Drawing.]
