All In Gesture – Travelling

Today I dusted the cobwebs off my pencil and newsprint pad and sat down to do some gesture drawing! Todd Bright’s weekly All In Gesture class gets recorded, so I was able to take part at a time that suited me. It was so much fun to do, despite being very rusty.

Gesture Drawing, 5th May

Liat modelled at an amazing gesture drawing session this week. I gave a brief demo on gestures before we began, showing a little of what I’ve been taught while studying animation. The response to what I shared and to the session as a whole was really positive, much more so than I expected. It seemsContinue reading “Gesture Drawing, 5th May”

Ballet Studies

More studies from the Bodies in Motion website! I began with some 30 second sketches, all of which were very rough so I haven’t uploaded any of them. Next I went through one of the motions spending a minute on every drawing. Finally I spent quite a long time on a study of one image.Continue reading “Ballet Studies”

Life Drawing, 6th February

Last week I had a good life drawing session with lots of dynamic and interesting poses. I drew in conte pastel for the first half, which was an attempt to shake me up a bit and loosen my drawings. Life Drawing, 24th October

Moving for work has meant I’ve had to search for another life drawing class … thankfully this last week I found one! It’s a great little group and the model this week, Helen, came up with some lovely poses. It’ll be good to get back into regular classes again.

Easter

A simple companion piece to my Good Friday image, celebrating Christ’s resurrection. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own loveContinue reading “Easter”

The Life of Birds

Today I attempted some gesture drawing from an episode of The Life of Birds. As I reached the end of Planet Earth II last year I realised I really should have had my sketchbook out. It’s good training for cafe gesture drawing, which I’m normally pretty hopeless at. As soon as people or animals are actually moving myContinue reading “The Life of Birds”

Life Drawing, 8th

After being in Glasgow for almost a whole month (!) I made it along to life drawing at the ATYN here on Monday. The location and the models were great, but I missed having short poses after the break! I felt I fiddled with my drawings too much during the longer poses. Hopefully I’ll haveContinue reading “Life Drawing, 8th”
