Bren modelled at life drawing on Tuesday. I enjoyed the variety of poses, and even drew part of the room using the mirror in the final drawing.

Life Drawing, October 31st
Andy was modelling at this week’s life drawing. He held some great poses, including one where he played the guitar. As he was actually playing the guitar rather than pretending to, I feel the final drawing has real movement.
Historical Fashion
One of the last times I was up in Edinburgh I sketched these at the museum in Chambers Street. Though I took no notes on colour at the time, thankfully National Museums Scotland has a searchable database – it’s fantastic for research.
Life Drawing, 13th and 20th June
Some sketches of models Hayley and Garry from the last two weeks.
Life Drawing, 16th May
I had another great session of life drawing at The Haining with model Jacque on Tuesday.
Gestures from March
These are from last month, but I never posted them. The site I use for online gesture drawing has changed its name and is now Line of Action. I began with 20 second poses and finished with two minute poses.

Life Drawing, 3rd and 10th
Here are a few drawings from the last couple of weeks!
Life Drawing, 1st March 2016
I felt I got back into the swing of things last night. I worked hard to stay loose, mainly by holding the conte pastel / pencil flat rather than the way I’d typically hold a pencil.
Life Drawing, 2nd
I made it along to the class on Tuesday and did a little better this time, though I’m still struggling with the confidence in some lines. More practice needed!
Life Drawing, 12th
Life drawing! I still haven’t managed to get any more newsprint, but I used an A3 pad of layout paper instead and it worked well. (I like using Conte pastels on smooth, thin paper, which is extraordinarily hard to find.) Plus, it didn’t wrinkle up when I was taking pictures. The portrait below, the feet andContinue reading “Life Drawing, 12th”
Life Drawing, 8th
I’ve run out of newsprint paper and must get some more as it’s the paper I use with conte pastels. This time I drew all the quick poses in pencil, which took a little getting used to.
Life Drawing, 1st
I was very rusty as I began to draw last night. It took me a while to loosen up. I’ve barely sketched this week – what a difference it makes! I finished the newsprint pad I’ve been using so began a new sketchbook with lovely smooth paper. The pencil drawings came out really well onContinue reading “Life Drawing, 1st”
Life Drawing, 25th
At All The Young Nudes this week two musicians modelled. Though there were the usual long and short poses, they also played a few songs. This was great not only to listen to but to draw! It was difficult, but I’d like to do more drawing like it. The two drawings below are using conte crayons. They were newContinue reading “Life Drawing, 25th”

Life Drawing, 9th
I’m pleased with many of the sketches I did last night! Regular drawing helps so much, yet it’s so easy to fall out of that all-important habit.
