A few years ago I posted some images from a short story I’d written and illustrated. You can view them here if you didn’t see them the first time around! The story follows Kinsey, a young Queen who battles her fears in order to reclaim her sword, her family, and her purpose. Since then I’veContinue reading “Kinsey’s Sword Thumbnails”

Study Squares #5
The snow is beginning to melt, leaving icy pools of water and slush. As I struggled through it on a walk this afternoon I thought it would be a good subject for today’s study.
Study Squares #4
Here are some quick pen studies of the views from the train today – mist in front of trees, stubble in the snow, hedges, ploughed fields, footprints, snow melting.
Study Squares #2
While on a walk with the dog this afternoon I looked out for interesting things to draw and decided on this juxtaposition between snow, ice and water.
Study Squares #1
If you’ve been following me for a few years you may remember that back in 2015 I drew ‘Pieces of Sky’, small squares of the sky I saw that day. (Here’s an example.) I’ve been thinking about starting to draw small colour studies again, as I enjoyed the challenge. However I feel only drawing theContinue reading “Study Squares #1”
Tree Seasons

Glencoe
It’s been over a year since I last updated my portfolio and showreel so (thanks to the prodding of others) I’m finally sorting through my work. In doing so I uncovered this painting of Glencoe. From what I remember I abandoned it in frustration, but I quite like it now! It’s loosely based on aContinue reading “Glencoe”
Kinsey’s Sword
A little over a year ago I set myself the challenge of illustrating a short story I’d written. I’ve posted some concepts and development of these illustrations before, but now I’d like to share a few of the finished drawings. Most of the drawings below are spreads, and are viewed over two pages when printed. OddContinue reading “Kinsey’s Sword”
Alp
Three sketch studies and the finished painting, created on commission. Though I like the looseness of the quick studies I really enjoyed spending time adding detail into the final picture. The pink sketch I rejected for being too pink, though I used some of the light suggested by it in my final composition. I still like theContinue reading “Alp”
